Article Marketing

An excellent way to brand yourself and get the word out is to write and publish articles. These do not have to be long, literary quality pieces. Short, concise articles of 300 - 500 words are usually best. They need to be informative and useful to the reader. They cannot be just a sales piece.

Some ways to get attention is to make lists, and to put that notion in the title. For example, if I was to write an article to promote my Independent Associate position with Viridian Energy, an article titled Seven Ways to Save Money on Electricity will get more attention than one titled Save on Your Electric Bill. You then need to make sure you have given them seven things that will offer the benefits promised in such a way as they have gotten value from the time spent reading.

In your articles, be sure to use quotes from people, just like you would in a press release. A quote from someone who has used the product or service or who has gained the benefit you are writing about will make your article come alive and seem more real. People will relate better to what you are writing and will feel they have gotten more value for their time. Please make sure that the quotes you use are legitimate and preferably verifiable. New Federal laws (in the US) require any testimonials to be true and verifiable. A quote in an article is not technically a testimonial, but it is better to err on the side of caution. You will be well served to always market honestly and truthfully.

When submitting articles to online sites, in order to get better search engine rankings, you will want to create some variations on them. Do not send the exact same article to dozens of article sites. You can edit them and change some of the quotes in them to create several versions of the same article. This will give you more original content and greater exposure.

If you are marketing as an associate or affiliate of a company that is protective of its brand, you will probably be required to run the article past their corporate compliance department prior to submission. Do not violate the terms of your affiliate or associate agreement, as then yo could find yourself with one less product or service to promote. It is too easy to market properly and according to the rules and guidelines to take any shortcuts. They are never worth it in the long run.

There are many good article sites online that will accept and publish your articles. Be sure to follow their rules. Some of the better sites require you to submit several articles before any are published, and some require a human review, so they could take several days to be approved. It is worth the wait.

Here are some sites that can be used to submit articles, in the order of their Alexa Ranking, which is based on the number of visitors to their website. Make sure that your article is appropriate to the site that you are submitting, as some of these only accept articles on specific topics or areas of interest.
